Tour Description
We will take you through some of the most impressive and picturesque places in the Barahona region. We will start our tour at the Malecon of Barahona, where we can enjoy an impressive view of the Caribbean Sea and learn more about the local history and culture.
Then, we will head towards La Máquina de Leña, where we will find that railroad from the time of the industrialization of sugar cane in this coastal town.
Next, we will pass by the Arco del Triunfo and the Entrance of Barahona, where the name of the city is located, to take some photos and learn more about the history and architecture of Barahona.
We will continue our tour towards Neyba, the capital of grapes, but first we will pass through one of the oldest sugar cane areas in the country where the work of that time is still being carried out.
We will arrive at “Las Caritas,” a cultural monument from the Columbus era where you can climb a series of steps that will allow you to appreciate the great number of petroglyphs on the walls, faces that suggest the presence of the Tainos from that time.
Finally, we will arrive at the impressive Lake Enriquillo, one of the largest and most fascinating lakes in the country. Here, we will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the most impressive views of the region, as well as learn more about the local flora and fauna.
Our last stop will be in La Descubierta, a picturesque city that will allow us to learn more about local life and culture before returning to Barahona.

Tour Program
Barahona
We will begin our tour passing through the Malecón de Barahona, a beautiful coastal area with spectacular views. Then, we will visit La Máquina de Leña, which was the first to start operations at the Barahona mill. We will make a stop at the Municipal City Hall, where the Public Clock is located, located in front of the central park right in the Municipal Palace.
Arco del Triunfo
We will continue our tour of the Arc de Triomphe, where we will pause to take photos next to the name of Barahona, painted with the native cultural forms of the province. We can also find a small house typical of our fields and painted in a fun way for our visitors. Here you can take a photo and even buy a gift to bring to your friends and family.
Neyba
We will pass through one of the sugarcane areas of the Dominican Republic that is still working in the industry and preserves its traditions. Its town is mostly of African descent and Haitian population. You will be able to see their social reality and their roots in their traditions, where we can see some voodoo practice or religious act. We will make a short stop in La Neibana, so you can buy grapes, wines and other offers from the area to your liking.
Las Caritas
We will take a break in time to travel to the historical past of the island. There we will find ancient indigenous figures embodied in the rocks of a hill just in front of Lake Enriquillo. This attraction is considered a natural refuge for the first inhabitants of the island.
Lago Enriquillo
Here we will see the rhinoceros iguana (Cyclura cornuta) and Ricord's iguana (Cyclura ricordi). There is also the American crocodile whose population in the lake is one of the largest in the world in the wild now. Park rangers and nature guides will be receiving visitors to provide them with information about the area, crocodiles, flamingos and other birds in the area.
La Descubierta
We will finish the tour in La Descubierta, where you can cool off in the Barias Forest, where the community cools off from the intense heat of the area. Here you can enjoy a cold beer or some refreshing drink of your choice.
